Early Life and Background

After a long career in Engineering and IT, Spoorthy Murali gave in to her life’s calling — the fine arts. Based in Bengaluru and trained in traditional Mysore-style painting, she dabbles in watercolors, illustrations for authors, wall art for businesses, acrylics, and charcoal, with watercolors being her all-time favorite as she continues to be smitten by the translucency and fluidity of the medium. Her work is an impressionistic letter to her surroundings. She has captured Bengaluru in her own impressionistic style with artwork that is vibrant and spontaneous. Her most notable work is her “Vibrant Bengaluru” series, where she distills the city’s chaos into minimalist scenes that burst with colour. Whether it is a historic landmark such as Lalbagh Glass House or an unremarkable scene of autorickshaws, her brushstrokes are spontaneous, allowing colours to glow with a transparency that becomes extraordinary.
